Kindermishandeling gaat ons allen aan. Elke arts zet zich in om kindermishandeling te signaleren. Maar niet elke arts is expert. Duiding van letsel, kennis van ongevalsmechanisme, van juridische valkuilen, is een medisch specialisme op het grensgebied van kindergeneeskunde en forensische geneeskunde. Het kind wil vooral zorg en veiligheid en kunnen vertrouwen op expertise van de professionals waarmee het te maken krijgt. Als de professionals deze expertise onvoldoende kunnen bieden, waar kunnen ze dan terecht?

Het Landelijk Expertise Centrum Kindermishandeling (LECK) opent vanaf 12 december 2014 haar deuren op drie locaties: Academisch Medisch Centrum Amsterdam, Erasmus Medisch Centrum Rotterdam en Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht. Samen met het Nederlands Forensisch Instituut biedt het LECK geïntegreerde forensisch-medische zorg en expertise. Het LECK geeft (telefonisch) advies en biedt geïntegreerde zorg aan verwezen kinderen.

Van 12 tot 14 Mei wordt in het Academisch Medisch Centrum Amsterdam het jaarlijkse congres van de International Society of Forensic Radiology and Imaging (ISFRI) georganiseerd. De ISFRI is de enige wetenschappelijk vereniging in de wereld die zich exclusief richt op het gebruik van forensische radiologie en andere beeldvormende technieken in het forensische veld. Tijdens dit congres van 2,5 dagen zullen tal van internationale en nationale sprekers aan bod komen die state of the art voordrachten zullen geven. Daarnaast zullen er wetenschappelijk presentaties worden gehouden over lopen wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Gezien de snelle ontwikkelingen op dit gebied en de te verwachtten toename van met name post mortale CT in het forensische veld in Nederland biedt dit congres een unieke kans om kennis te maken met de experts in dit veld en op de hoogte te worden gebracht over de huidige stand van zaken.

Anniversary Conference of the Dutch Forensic Medical Society (FMG)

In 2020 the Dutch Forensic Medical Society (FMG) celebrated its 40th anniversary of contributing to medical forensic science and education in the Netherlands. Due to COVID-19 we will celebrate our jubilee on

September 15th and 16th 2022.

We invite you to join us in Rotterdam for an exciting scientific meeting. The motto of the conference - Dying to meet you -reflects our need to connect with international colleagues to enhance global forensic medical knowledge.

Meet and listen to distinguished experts from eight different countries all over the world. Recent developments will be discussed in the fields of Forensic Medicine, Forensic Science, Pathology, Law and Human Rights.

The call for abstracts is open. Join us in Rotterdam to share your own cutting-edge research.

The program committee is centered on the conference theme, "Science Works." In the past few years, science and the scientific method have been under attack, denigrated, and dismissed. AAFS President Laura Fulginiti's plan is to offer scientific content demonstrating that forensic science provides trustworthy, objective data that can be relied upon by the judicial system, Congress, and the public. In addition, President Fulginiti wants to focus on our members who work at forensic science every day. The meeting will be a celebration of forensic science and the history of the Academy in forensic sciences.

General
The CME Course ‘Forensic Neuropathology’, organized for the fourth time, will be held from 2^nd -4^th May 2023 in Edinburgh, Scotland. As with each Euro-CNS course, it will consist of lectures with an emphasis on teaching, alternating with practical (case work-up and digital microscopy) sessions. This will be the first in-person course where no microscopes will be used, all microscopy being digital.

Program
Unique in Europe, perhaps even in the world, the course shall provide an overview of problems in neuropathology which are relevant in judicial cases. The first part of the course will focus on basic issues in neuro-trauma and adult forensic neuropathology, post-mortem radiology, CNS affection by intoxications and differential diagnostic problems. The second part of the course will address the difficult field of pediatric neuro-trauma.

During the course, lectures by international experts will be illustrated by discussions of selected cases. Because forensic neuropathology represents an integral part of the forensic medical investigation, the focus of the course shall expand beyond the main issues in forensic neuropathology.

Last, but not least, the program includes a nice and cosy dinner at a central location in Edinburgh.

Aim of the course
The aim of the course is to provide both clinical neuropathologists and forensic pathologists with tools which enable them to ask the right questions, form correct judgments on the quality of forensic neuropathology investigations or to help them to perform these investigations. The organizers envision an interactive course, making use of case discussions, quizzes and by inviting participants to bring their own cases (a selection will be made in advance).

Educational materials
You will have and keep access to a digital platform with case materials, and you will receive your personal copy of Forensic Neuropathology, 2nd edition, by Helen Whitwell/Christopher Milroy/Daniel du Plessis. We will also have the Escourolle & Poirier Manual of Basic Neuropathology available for anyone interested. All books are provided complimentary.

Registration (open)
The registration fee is 875 Euro for Euro-CNS members, and 975 Euro for non-members. The registration fee covers your participation in the program and also catering during the course. On the second day the Course organization will offer you a (free) dinner in a nice location.  A limited number of grants of 550 euro are available for young trainees in neuropathology (under 35 years). You can register online here. As our payment portal is not ready yet, you will receive payment details later via mail (options for bank transfer or credit card). We expect to have our portal ready by the end of January. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us directly.

The cancellation fee is 50 Euro. A replacement may be allowed upon consultation with the Secretariat. No refunds are given after 1 April 2022.

Accreditation
CME credits (ECMEC) will be requested from the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME). CME accreditation granted by the UEMS-EACCME® provides a guarantee to participants from all over the world that the content of the CME provided is of a high quality, unbiased and didactic and, for European doctors, that this quality will be recognised in their home country. There is a mutual recognition agreement with the American Medical Association (AMA).

Travel grants Euro-CNS
A limited number of grants of € 550 is available for young trainees in neuropathology. Preference is given to applicants from Eastern European countries but applicants from other European countries may also be considered. The deadline for submitting your application is 1 March 2023.  If you apply for a grant – please indicate this in the online registration form. There are no separate grant application forms.

Travel grants International Society of Neuropathology
If you are a trainee in neuropathology in a medium low-income country (and non-European/non-North American), we recommend that you apply for an ISN award that will help with covering the cost of travel and participation. For application details and eligibility please see the ISN website. Please note that the applications for ISN grants are handled and administered by ISN and that you need to register normally for the Euro-CNS course.

Accommodation
We have no dedicated headquarters hotel for course participants, but Edinburgh has a wide range of accommodation available, covering all budgets. We recommend checking accommodation options that suit your budget most in a booking service like booking.com.
